custom fabric flowers with layers of love

Posted by on

For the past 11 years, it’s been my Valentine tradition to make one of a kind fabric flower pin accessories. And since I’ve been in New York, I enlisted the help of some experts on the custom flower making business.

Famous for making Carrie Bradshaw’s flower, Warren and his crew let me experiment with their 100 year old metal die collection (kinda like industrial cookie cutters) to cut literally thousands of petals that I could rivet together and hand-shape into my signature flower pins.

Once cut, I brought my tub petals to Grandma Nancy’s kitchen for a pin-making extravaganza. First I soak the petals in a top-secret solution to make them pliable and water-resistant.

Twisting, shaping and folding the leather flower petals – one by one.

Next, I hang them upside down to dry overnight on oven racks.

Then the real fun begins: which pips go with which flower? Should I add a feather?

Purchase them on my website in very limited-edition quantities!
