All too often, we forget the stories behind the things we use everyday. But when we take a moment to learn about where something comes from, it can add a whole new layer of meaning to our experience.

Why Lee Krasner's Icarus painting inspired a collection of vintage fabric bags and sustainable recycled leather purses

Have you ever had one of those moments where you see something and it just clicks? That's how I felt when I saw Lee Krasner's Icarus painting. The bold colors, the punctuated bursts of reds and pinks ...it was like nothing I had ever seen before. And it inspired me to create a collection of vintage fabric bags and sustainable recycled leather purses.

As you probably know by now, I'm passionate about fashion and design, but I also care about sustainability. So for me, creating this collection was the perfect way to merge my two interests. The vintage fabrics add a unique twist to the bags, and the rescued leather is environmentally friendly. Plus, both materials are incredibly durable, so these bags will last for years to come.

A crash course on artist Lee Krasner and her significant impact in the Abstract Expressionist movement:

Lee Krasner was a 20th-century woman artist, whose importance has too often been eclipsed by her marriage to Jackson Pollock.  Breaking barriers and boldly taking up her rightful place in a formerly male-dominated profession, Krasner revolutionized the artistic landscape of her time and beyond. Through boldness, autonomy, and commitment to her own creative vision, she refused to be limited by society’s expectations of women’s roles. Her work serves not only as an important historical connection to the past but also as an inspirational reminder of women’s right to choose the paths they wish to follow.

Our Icarus-inspired handbag collection: how it incorporates elements of the painting into vintage fabric bags and sustainable recycled leather purses

My latest collection incorporates elements of this painting into the luxurious retro fabrics and rescued leathers that I selected to create my purses. Through this careful selection of material, my hope is that the finished bags become something more precious and special,  than the discarded materials they were once made from. Not only do they bring an artisan layer to your outfit, but they are also entirely functional; a great way to wear art and add value to your day-to-day look.

What makes this collection special - its unique design, eco-friendly materials, and connection to art history

Our limited-quantity handbag collection exudes a unique, artisanal charm. Its eco-friendly materials take cues from both classic and contemporary art history; the brushstrokes from a discarded artist's canvas artfully mix neon pink, lush plummy purple, and magenta to create timeless pieces with subtle sophistication. You can’t help but feel inspired when looking at this limited bag collection, which uses materials that are sustainable for the planet and the fashion industry.
