downsizing to the BIG Apple

Posted by on

Well, I’m sure it was only a matter of time until I took the leap and got an apartment in NYC – considering how much time I’ve been spending here.  Not that it was a surprise to anyone who knows me well.  It’s ALWAYS been a dream to live here, but up until recently, I didn’t think it was something that could fit into my lifestyle.  But newly single and ready for a new adventure: here I am!

I found a little spot in the East Village – seriously REALLY little.  A whopping 220 square feet.  But it’s mine, all mine.  I’ve given myself two weeks to nest and get my apartment feeling a bit more like home.

For some reason I feel like people expect me to be wandering museums and selling my bags at Henry Bendel already.  My reality is cleaning, grocery shopping, and establishing my nearest post office, library and laundromat.  I had a great chat with my friend Marin last night, I confessed that I felt sad that I didn’t have very many exciting stories to tell her of my first week in the Big Apple. But she assured me that she would think something was wrong with me if I was living the good life already.  I mean how many museums and parties does anyone go to to in the first week of moving?

That’s not to say I haven’t had fun.  In fact, I REALLY enjoy turning my grungy apartment into a little oasis of calm in the city. And I saw some fantastic live music, and have gone to several movies at the Tribeca Film Festival.  So there’s that.

If you’re vaguely curious as to my makeover of my little spot, check out my instagram photos. I’ve been posting several times daily.  And if you have any feedback – by all means.  Do share.  It’s strange to be surround by so many humans in a big city, yet it feels a bit lonely.
