The Fall rush is well underway here in Seattle, and I’m happy to say that we are busier than ever. So busy, in fact, that I’ve run out of a few bags. (Don’t worry, I’m making more!) On our daily walk from the post office, my husband and I take the scenic route through Woodland park or around Greenlake.
Since the bags have been selling out so quickly, I thought you might like to have a sneak peek at my stash of fabrics that will soon be turned into new bags!
p.s. Thanks to NW Source for including my Soiree bag in their roundup of “Fall’s Ultimate Accessories“.

The weather in Seattle this weekend was a stark contrast to last weekend‘s rainy blusteriness. It has been sunny, mild and glorious for a few days now. My husband was taking a poetry class on Capitol Hill, and I agreed to take the trek with him. You see, Capitol Hill is my absolute favorite place to shop for vintage clothing in Seattle. But it takes patience and dedication to find just the right vintage clothes to add to your wardrobe – and it’s a rare occasion that I have a few free hours to shop for ME! So I took full advantage, stopping first at the always fantastic and helpful Pretty Parlor and continued walking up the hill. By the end of the afternoon, my diligence paid off. I purchased three vintage dresses, a pair of black wedge boots, and a fun pair of rather lady-like navy blue gloves for under $100. Added bonus – I gained bit of a pink glow to my sun-starved Seattle skin.

This weekend, my parents came to town to check out our new digs, and hang out in the ‘big city’. It was a drizzly Saturday in Seattle, but they willingly braved the elements to visit a few of our favorite Seattle attractions. Our first stop was Pike Place Market, where Mom pounced on a fantastic cloche hat, while I found myself unable to resist a bouquet of dried flowers and a vintage silk scarf. After snacking on a couple Monster cookies, we spent over 2 hours shopping the amazing treasures at Pike Place Antiques. Our final stop was a sunset walk thru the Olympic Sculpture Park, which boasts one of the best views of the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound.

I dunno if you’ve been watching the news but on Thursday, Seattle was crippled with record-breaking snowfall with streets caked in thick ice. . .and we were told that round #2 is on it’s way. Sure enough, on our walk home yesterday from the post office, millions of tiny crystalline flakes of snow covered the sky. And now, 24 hours later, it really hasn’t stopped!
I’m sure that many of you are completely accustomed to this kind of snowfall – but Seattle, with it’s steep hills,
certainly is not. I grew up on the ‘snowy’ side of Washington, and survived the snowy drifts and falling on my a$$ on the icy campus of
WSU, but that was 12 years ago. So I too, am marveling at the immense pile of snow accumulating on our rooftop, patio and surface streets below. We have ventured out a few times around our neighborhood, and have marveled at the impromptu sledders on the hilly streets, cross-country skiers and the good souls that opened
Bottleworks Beer Shop today.

What a busy weekend we have had! After consuming copious quantities of stuffing and apple pie, we returned home to a very full in-box. . .with lots of orders! So first thing this morning we packed the orders from the weekend, and did a quick dash up the hill to the post office. We are working on stack #2, since today we are having a 1-day sale on select clutches for $50! I am so delighted that so many customers have come back for 2 or 3 bags to give as gifts, and really appreciate all of the word-of-mouth advertising and support. What a fabulous Monday. . .thank you!

Every fall, the Kokorowski men start speculating amongst themselves on whether or not it’ll be a good season for the mushrooms. Masutake mushrooms, to be exact. And no, not the psychedelic type – we’ve heard that joke far too many times. We’re talking about meaty, earthy mushrooms for soups and gravy that have a hearty texture and a very $$ pricetag at the supermarket. Ages ago, my Polish father-in-law, was introduced to a patch *somewhere* in the Cascades that has been legendary for it’s amazing mushrooms. And every fall, since my husband and his brothers were very young, they have ventured out in the wee hours of the morning to take the trek up the mountain to hunt them. And this weekend, I joined them. It has been an absolute bumper crop. In past years, the masutake has eluded me – but this season I’ve been pleasantly surprised. The hike is brutal, nearly uphill the whole way, but they certainly make for a mighty yummy soup!
