dresses that weren’t asked to the prom, reinvented as handbags!

Friday, September 30th, 2011
I was recently asked to participate in an upcoming fundraiser for the  Ruby Room, which will be hosting a Fashion Show and auction featuring reworked fashions by Seattle designers, tomorrow night.  Earlier this year, I got to visit the Ruby Room myself and choose the “dresses that weren’t asked to the prom” to re-invent into a limited-edition collection of bags that will be auctioned off tomorrow night. Here’s a few photos of the behind-the-scenes at Ruby Room, a a local non-profit that provides formal gowns to low-income high school girls for their proms and homecoming dances.

I selected cast-off dresses that had a sturdy weave, and a lot of texture to experiment with. After cutting the bags apart and reinforcing the fabric pleats with interfacing – I created a collection of handbags that are luxe yet durable enough to be worn everyday.

Suggested retail on these one of a kind bags is $198, with all auction proceeds going to benefit Ruby Room.

five fashion rules worth breaking

Friday, April 1st, 2011

We’ve all heard, “Don’t wear white after labor day.” But here are a few other other fashion myths that deserve to be broken:

  1. Never mix prints.
  2. Take one accessory off before leaving the house.
  3. Don’t wear horizontal stripes.
  4. Your bag and shoes should match.
  5. Tweed should only be worn in winter.

I’ve assembled a collection of some of my favorite ways to break the rules:

Lightweight and breathable, tweed is the perfect fabric for spring.  And to entice you to try out this classic material that you can dress up or down, I’m offering 20% off all Tweed Bags on my website thru April 30.

What are your favorite fashion ‘rules’ to break?  I’d love to hear them in your comments below.

new tweed foxtrot hobos

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

I couldn’t wait any longer. I’ve been dying to make a few of these for a while, and I managed to bust out 4 new, completely unique Foxtrot Hobos in tweed, with cute little leather corner patches. I’m trying to keep these bags on the DL until I know I can handle the demand, so I’m posting them exclusively on my Etsy page for now. Pretty please check them out and let me know what you think. . and by all means, if you want to purchase one – buy it, (or you might have to wait till the new year!)

Custom Tweed Foxtrot for Laura

Friday, October 17th, 2008

In the wee hours of the night before our flight to LA, I got a sweet email from Laura – letting me know that her custom foxtrot had arrived. I have been having so much fun working with new materials and the new tweed I’m using is exceptionally nice. Here’s a peek at Laura’s bag. I’m working on a batch of similar tweed hobos, and I’ll add them to my Etsy site when they’re ready.
