I have been putting the finishing touches on my fall collection – and I enlisted my facebook fans (you should become one too!) to help me name a few of the new fabrics. I think we all agree that it was very “Memoirs of a Geisha”. Chinoserie, yet slightly tiki . . .suggestions included: Japanese postcard.Tokyo memoir. Asian dream. Paradise Found. Geisha Pagoda. . hmm.. . it was a tongue-twister.
So, ‘Geisha Romance’ proved to be the winning name. It’s a lovely deep red barkcloth with lovely stylized black pagodas & teahouses with aqua florals. Available in Black and Navy Blue Soiree Messenger and a burgundy clutch.

“From veggies to vegan handbags, buying what’s made locally is in. And when you buy merchandise made by local designers at locally owned boutiques, you double your shopping power. We’re glad that the rest of Seattle has finally caught on to what we’ve known all along—that our city is home to a nearly endless wealth of design talent. ( Soirée bag by Crystalyn Kae, $215 ) This local designer (crystalynkae.com) has vegans covered with her popular tote that converts from shoulder bag to messenger (shown in burgundy). Two of her other styles (Metier tote and pleated clutch) recently starred in Robin Williams’ new movie, World’s Greatest Dad, filmed in Seattle. Find them at Queen Anne Undies and Outies boutique.”

I recently got a note from LA-based photographer, Liz Kuball, who wanted to let me know how perfect her Soiree bag is for a camera bag! So perfect in fact, that she blogged about it!
Photographers’ search for the perfect bag is legendary. The bag I carry with me every day, the one I keep my camera in everywhere I go, is a purse handmade by Crystalyn Kae Kokorowski in Seattle, Washington. It’s my one-size-fits-all bag. It holds all my typical purse stuff , plus a book and my Canon 5D with a lens. And there’s room to spare—The whole thing is incredibly durable. And my camera is always safe and sound inside. If you’re looking for a good purse/camera bag, you can’t go wrong with the Soirée Messenger Bag.
Check out her blog here. It is an incredibly enjoyable read . . . not just for those who love great photography.

Katie from Seattle asked me to create an incognito diaper bag: one that both she and her husband could carry, that would be machine-washable, super durable, and be used long after Sebastien is out of diapers. She requested to have a long adjustable strap, flap closure with magnetic snap, and a foam-padded bottom. I came up with 3 sketches and a stack of swatches in blues and greens to choose from.
Inside are 8 pockets:
- 2 bottle/sippy cup pockets
- 2 diaper pockets (large enough to fit eight newborn or 4 toddler diapers)
- 2 sets of zipper pouches & 2 slip pockets: so Brian & Katie each have a home for their cell phones and keys
Across the outside back, there is a long narrow pocket – to fit the changing pad. And of course my signature ultrasuede-lined adjustable strap that can be worn short or long across the body.

Today I had the honor of having my bags featured on Treehugger.com! Wow! I still can’t believe it.
That squeaking sound you hear? That’s me trying to scrounge together enough pennies for one of Crystalyn Kae’s luscious climate-forward bags. Handmade in Seattle from start to finish, most of the designer’s distinctive totes and clutches are crafted from patterned vintage textiles—atomic-era barkcloth, florals, and prints from the 1940s to 1970s—that bashfully peek out from between the folds of her Soireé Messenger Bags and pleated clutches.
Also available are the boxy Metier Work Tote, sized and cut to fit your laptop and work files, and the roomy Troubadour Tote, its ruched surface dotted with silver metal rivets. The stage, however, has to be ceded to the curvaceous hobo, which comes in three designs: the vegan-friendly Topstitch and Monarch, as well as the newly released Bohemia, which features recycled leather corners on both vegetable-tanned leather and woven-fabric permutations.
Each bag includes a one-year workmanship guarantee.
Please check out the feature on Treehugger, and let them know how much you love your Crystalyn Kae bag!

Seattle Picks
“We can’t leave the house without an entire barrage of supplies for our day—water, umbrella, snacks, sunglasses—the list goes on. So when we find a bag that is spacious enough to carry around our lives, we are sold. Especially when it’s as distinctive as the Soiree bag by Crystalyn Kae.
We love the kick pleats of rare textiles—plus, there are only a few made in each fabric, so we know we are getting something unique. It’s perfection.”

“Here’s how much we love the bags from Crystalyn Kae:
I emailed designer Crystalyn Kokorowski about ordering one of her gorgeous Soirée Drawstring Bags for myself, and then one for my co-editor Kristen as a holiday gift. Simultaneously, Kristen was ordering one for herself…and one for me. And rats, she beat me to it.
So now I’m stuck without a gift idea for Kristen yet, but whoooo! I do have a beautiful bag to look forward to!
You will know in two seconds of clicking over why we both fell in love with the Soirée. It has such unique styling - shiny faux leather accented with vertical pleats of vintage fabrics. Each bag really is one or few-of-a-kind.
But Crystalyn’s other handbag styles are just as amazing – I love the Monarch Hobo for everyday wear, but moms with 8 tons to haul around should definitely check out the Métier Shopper and Troubadour Tote. Whether or not you’re into the leather-free look as a matter of principle, what’s especially nice about the material is that it keeps the larger bags lightweight.
All I can say is, if you see one you like, snap it up now before someone else does. Unless you’re lucky. And that person your friend. Buying the bag for you.” -Liz

With the colder weather ensuing, you’ll need a bigger bag to carry more stuff- something to hoarde your cute shoes in so you can scrap the giant Sorel boots you were forced to wear one you get into the office, and a place to keep your gloves and scarf, oh and hat, and earmuffs and whatever else the winter blues may have you styling. Perfect for this purpose is the Soiree Drawstring bag from Crystalyn Kae!
This limited edition bag is not only functional, it’s stylish too featuring a funky, pleated design that lets vintage fabric peek out from behind. This oversized bag is made from a vegan friendly, water-resistant (another weather plus!) glazed material, is lined with ultra-suede and features an adjustable length strap and magnetic closure. Check out all the colors available in the Soiree, and find other innovative bag designs at Crystalyn Kae!

This utterly fabulous drawstring tote is for girls on the go who need bottomless bags to effortlessly accommodate everything needed for work and play. Local designer Crystalyn Kokorowski makes this very chic, pleated handbag with glazed fabric. She makes a half dozen other styles as well. Patterned vintage fabric (you get to choose from more than 40 kinds) peeks out through the pleats making each handbag one of a kind.
Handcrafted right in Wallingford, the bags come in black, ale brown, tan, green, burgundy and navy blue: shades that happily co-mingle with fall’s best fashions. The Ultrasuede lined interior has two pockets that are perfect for storing an iPod and cell phone, as well as a zippered pouch that will fit your makeup, keys, etc. Kokorowski’s bags are masterfully crafted and feature magnetic closures and adjustable straps. The only drawback to this drawstring is deciding on color and pleat fabric.
