Chaenomeles speciosa, (Japanese quince) and Soiree Messenger bag in "Quince Blossom"

We have been blessed by a beautiful early spring here in Seattle, and I wanted to share a bit of it with you!   I spotted this flowering Japanese quince in my neighbor’s yard and thought it would be the perfect time to introduce  ”Quince Blossom” a limited-edition vintage fabric adorning my Green Soiree Messenger.  To celebrate the early coming of spring (or to encourage spring to come to those of you still covered in snow) I am offering 15% off my Green and Brown Soiree bags until March 15.

Update: 3/20 the Quince Blossom fabric has sold out!

flower pins crafted with layers of love

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Every year before Valentine’s day I create a batch of these little flower pins using beloved fragments of some of my favorite fabrics. This year, I cut out 12 layers of petals for each pin using remnants of my  grandmother’s blouses, scraps of Liberty fabric, and an antique silk wedding dress. Then I arrange and sew the layers together with vintage rhinestone button and affixed a metal pin on the back.

Each flower pin is handmade and uniquely crafted by me in my Seattle studio.   These lovely 4″ flower pins would add a little splash of spring to your coat, handbag, hat, jacket lapel or ponytail holder. Available in Pink, Purple and Red for $14 exclusively on my Etsy page – for a limited time!

Tiger Lily bags in Tan, Brown & Black

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

I have just added a few new bags in a vintage fabric that I like to call “Tiger Lily“.  Featuring turquoise hibiscus, and tiger lilies on a butter yellow background. I discovered this fabric while on a road trip to San Francisco and bought all of it!  It is the perfect kick-off to my Spring 2010 palette.  Available now on my website!

a late night with scissors

flower_pins_in_progressOh man, I will be up for a while!  I am working on the most epic batch of flower pins, ever!  I have made a goal of making 100 flower pins to add to the goodie bags at Urban Craft Uprising and they’re *almost* done. .I just need to affix the pins and a name label.  I’m at 88 and counting, and the pins have taken over every flat surface in my studio.  If you’d like to get one of these cuties for free, (and you’ll be in Seattle August 1 & 2) be one of the first 100 attendees to UCU each day, and you’ll get an entire goodie bag filled with treasures from some of these lovely artists.

Soiree bag in Seattle Picks

Seattle Picks

“We can’t leave the house without an entire barrage of supplies for our day—water, umbrella, snacks, sunglasses—the list goes on. So when we find a bag that is spacious enough to carry around our lives, we are sold. Especially when it’s as distinctive as the Soiree bag by Crystalyn Kae.
We love the kick pleats of rare textiles—plus, there are only a few made in each fabric, so we know we are getting something unique. It’s perfection.”
