“a go-anywhere, do-anything purse that is built to last”

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

The Neat Sheet, a fab new independent daily style blog,  gave my Soiree Messenger some love:

“Finding the perfect bag that transitions easily from work to play can be a bit tricky. Finding one that can do double (err, triple) duty as a vacation tote is even more unusual, which is why we are thrilled to find these neat Crystalyn Kae handbags. If you’re looking for a go-anywhere, do-anything purse, you’ll want to stop by Moxie for the Crystalyn Kae trunk show. Created sustainably and handmade in Seattle, Crystalyn Kae handbags are sturdy, roomy and cute to boot. One of our favorite styles is the Soirée Messenger bag (shown top, $215). It comes in a variety of colors and we love the bright slits of fabric that peek out between the leather folds.  Shop for tons of unique styles, that are built to last.

by popular demand. . .a new smaller Soiree pleated bag!

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Over the years, I’ve had requests for a smaller version of my  Soiree Messenger with peeking pleats, but  this is the first time I have offered an entire collection on my site.  It seems like everyone is asking, and since I’ve found beautiful new materials to work with. . . . .

I have given in to your demands!

This new smaller version of the Soiree is the perfect size for everyday. 12″ high by 10″ wide and 3″ deep (inner dimensions 8 x 10)

I have just added this new bag in limited quantities on my website. I’d love any feedback, suggestions, you can send my way. (Like, should I name it something a little more original than “Mini-Soiree”?) You can also offer your suggestions on my facebook page, if you prefer!

Update:  I think the winner so far is Anne-Marie, who suggested “Matinee”….has a good ring to it, right?

This week I have been busy filling orders for Summer bags for stores, and today these lovely pictures arrived from (shoo) in Milwaukee WI – who have just opened a second location in Madison, WI.

(shoo) has recently re-stocked the beautiful boutiques with my Soiree Messenger bags and a variety of recycled leather clutches in Summer colors. So if you’re in the area – go check them out!

custom zipper closure for Soiree bag

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

My best selling bag of all time is most certainly the Soiree Drawstring Messenger.  It closes securely with a drawstring & magnetic snap – but I recently was commissioned by customer Kerry in Federal Way, WA to customize a Soiree with a zipper closure for her.  With this kind of modification, the bag will lose 4 inches of depth – but if you’re the type to do cartwheels while wearing your Soiree, this could be a perfect solution.  I love creating custom handbags, so if you have an idea or special request for a bag – feel free to get in touch!

Chaenomeles speciosa, (Japanese quince) and Soiree Messenger bag in "Quince Blossom"

We have been blessed by a beautiful early spring here in Seattle, and I wanted to share a bit of it with you!   I spotted this flowering Japanese quince in my neighbor’s yard and thought it would be the perfect time to introduce  ”Quince Blossom” a limited-edition vintage fabric adorning my Green Soiree Messenger.  To celebrate the early coming of spring (or to encourage spring to come to those of you still covered in snow) I am offering 15% off my Green and Brown Soiree bags until March 15.

Update: 3/20 the Quince Blossom fabric has sold out!

Tiger Lily bags in Tan, Brown & Black

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

I have just added a few new bags in a vintage fabric that I like to call “Tiger Lily“.  Featuring turquoise hibiscus, and tiger lilies on a butter yellow background. I discovered this fabric while on a road trip to San Francisco and bought all of it!  It is the perfect kick-off to my Spring 2010 palette.  Available now on my website!

fall in love with Geisha Romance barkcloth. . .

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

black_ds_onmodel640px I have been putting the finishing touches on my fall collection – and I enlisted my facebook fans (you should become one too!) to help me name a few of the new fabrics.  I think we all agree that  it was very “Memoirs of a Geisha”. Chinoserie, yet slightly tiki . . .suggestions included:  Japanese postcard.Tokyo memoir. Asian dream. Paradise Found. Geisha Pagoda. . hmm.. . it was a tongue-twister.

So, ‘Geisha Romance’ proved to be the winning name.  It’s a lovely deep red barkcloth with lovely stylized black pagodas & teahouses with aqua florals.   Available in Black and Navy Blue Soiree Messenger and a burgundy clutch.

Seattle Magazine – “Shopping Local”

Friday, September 11th, 2009

seattle_magazine_sept09“From veggies to vegan handbags, buying what’s made locally is in. And when you buy merchandise made by local designers at locally owned boutiques, you double your shopping power. We’re glad that the rest of Seattle has finally caught on to what we’ve known all along—that our city is home to a nearly endless wealth of design talent. ( Soirée bag by Crystalyn Kae, $215 ) This local designer (crystalynkae.com) has vegans covered with her popular tote that converts from shoulder bag to messenger (shown in burgundy). Two of her other styles (Metier tote and pleated clutch) recently starred in Robin Williams’ new movie, World’s Greatest Dad, filmed in Seattle. Find them at Queen Anne Undies and Outies boutique.”

Queen Anne Undies and Outies

Queen Anne Undies and Outies

Sometimes I really miss having my own store in Seattle, but the lovely Queen Anne Dispatch just placed another humungous order for bags, which is the next best thing. Check out their new summer display: it looks like a mini Crystalyn Kae store!  They have re-stocked all of the core items: Foxtrot medium hobos, Soiree Drawstring, and Clutches – and also picked out 10 of the new bohemia hobos. This is the only store on the West Coast that you can see my entire collection in person – plus a few one of a kind leather & vintage fabric Metiers that you won’t find anywhere else!  Stop by and say “hi”!
